GENDER ADVISOR - ABIDJAN RECRUITMENT’S NOTICE

The Gender Advisor is responsible for supporting the integration of a strong gender equality perspective in the country office strategic programming and project proposals. This will include ensuring gender mainstreaming throughout project’s results-based management frameworks, strengthening and supporting gender equality strategies and facilitating gender equality capacity strengthening for the partner teams via training and/or tools development.  The post holder provides technical support to projects on gender equality. The post-holder will support the PDQ team, with duties including but not limited to supporting the design of new programme as well as representing the country office on the development of gender equality tools, research, and trainings. The Gender Advisor will work closely with Save the Children WCA regional office and members’ offices to achieve country office gender equality objectives.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 5-7 years’ work experience with an international or national development organization, with focus on women and girls’/gender equality programming and economic empowerment.
  • Proven experience working on normative change for gender equality and adolescent sexual and reproductive health in sensitive contexts.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing and evaluating gender-transformative social and behaviour change communication interventions.
  • Experience in implementing gender-transformative approaches to health, child protection, education.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent influencing skills, including an ability to deal with people at all levels with credibility, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Specific knowledge of international development and gender equality issues; experience engaging children and other community members on gender equality issues desirable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in French and English (verbal and written) with excellent ability to produce good quality documents, information for a variety of audiences and communicate good practices.
  • Strong organizational skills to work effectively to support multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, both following and supporting others.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and inspire others.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Effective critical information gathering to create accurate reports. 
  • Excellent analytical skills, and demonstrated experience with gender analysis. 
  • Good familiarity, networking and working relationships with relevant organizations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values
  • Knowledge and expertise in local context.
  • Good working knowledge of and experience in using inter-agency standards and guidelines in IASC Gender handbook and IASC GBV in humanitarian settings.
  • Commitment to and understanding of child rights, the aims and principles of Save the Children, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the Code of Conduct. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.

 

Contract length: 1-year renewable (subject to performance and funding)
