TWO (02) BILINGUAL INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANTS (ENGLISH & FRENCH)

 

Description du poste

Scope of the work
The scope of work has two activities:

(i) The first is individual reviews of study questionnaires that have been translated from French to English by two professional translation firms. The original version of the questionnaires is in French and is 113 pages overall. Each of the pages has two corresponding English versions. The documents to be reviewed are the two concurrent English translations of the French questionnaires. The questionnaires are about an Early Child Development measure.

(ii) The second activity is participation in meetings to discuss the translation outcomes. The
meetings will occur remotely using Skype or a similar e-meeting platform. This second activity is a set of nine (09) meetings of 4 hours each. The consultancy period is from September 14 to October 15. This is a short-term consultancy, full time with the possibility of extension until October 30 depending on project needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Individual review of the questionnaires
- The successful candidates are expected to review a series of items translated by two separated professional translators (see the Scope of work above for more details)
- For each item, they are also expected to choose the best translation using both the professional translators’ outcomes and propose a consolidated retranslation if needed
Participation in remote meetings
- Both the successful candidates are expected to participate in some translation committee
meetings (see the Scope of work for more details)
- The participants of the translation committee meetings are expected to discuss and have a
consensus for the translation items

Qualifications
Minimum requirements
- Degree/Diploma: Bachelor’s Degree minimum; masters preferred
- Program of Study: English Studies, Translation or similar
- Type of Experience: Translation preferred
- Access to remote work equipment (computer, internet, Skype account, etc.)
- Full availability over the study period
Skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English & French
- Attention to writing and communication details
- Experience in translation/communications services
- Excellent skills in planning, scheduling, and performing text review's deliverables within tight
deadlines
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Moderate understanding of survey questionnaires, public opinion poll or related will be an advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
