In 2015, the Jacobs Foundation committed to lead a comprehensive strategy around quality of education and early childhood development in cocoa-growing communities in Cote d’Ivoire. This initiative called Transforming Education in Cocoa Communities (TRECC) strives to enable children and youth to lead healthy and fulfilling lives, respond to local and global challenges, pursue their dreams, and reach their full potential. Over the last three years, the Ivorian government, 12 cocoa and chocolate companies, 20 civil society organizations and academic partners, and two foundations have joined this effort.

One of the Jacobs Foundation’s impact strategies is based on building a strong network of highly talented innovative early and mid-career researchers from multiple disciplinary backgrounds to drive scientific progress on child and youth development. From March 30th to April 3rd, 2020, the Jacobs Foundation will organize in Abidjan its first largest Africa-based alumni meeting entitled “Jacobs Abidjan Meeting 2020” (JAM 2020). This event will gather the Jacobs Foundation Research Fellowship Alumni, our Social Entrepreneur Fellows, leading journalists, partners from the public and private sectors including the Ivorian government, industry partners, civil society organizations and academic partners to promote the dissemination of latest research findings on child and youth development, social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Your tasks
o Plan the event from start to finish, including conference, workshops, field trips and sightseeing, according to requirements, target audiences and objectives.
o Work in close collaboration with the event’s task force composed of Jacobs Foundation and TRECC staff and come up with suggestions to enhance the event’s success.
o Attend the event’s task force meetings till the conference and provide updates.
o Coordinate all operations including communication and logistical arrangements.
o Prepare budgets and ensure adherence. o Liaise and negotiate with vendors, suppliers and contractors.
o Supervise all service providers (event coordinators, caterers etc.).
o Ensure event is completed smoothly and step up to resolve any problems that might occur.
o Analyze the event’s organization and identify areas of improvement and other lessons learned to be documented in a report after the event.

Profil du poste

The Event Manager shall provide management and logistical support to oversee and organize the event in Abidjan to be held from March 30th to April 3rd, 2020. The position will be based in Abidjan and shall commence on January 6th, 2020 for a period of four months.
Your profile
o Degree in Business, Public Relations, Communications, Hospitality or similar.
o Strong MS Office skills, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
o Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French.
o Comfortable in dealing with stakeholders of all levels.
o Proven track record in executing successful events.
o Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented and proactive.
o Effective time-management skills and ability to work under pressure to ensure efficient running of the event.
o Solid experience in project management is an advantage. o Positive, creative and flexible approach to problem-solving.
o High customer service orientation as well as great interpersonal and teamwork skills.
o Proficiency in various event software is an advantage.
