Save the Children in Cote d’Ivoire

Save the Children, Cote d’Ivoire Programme is seeking Communications Officer for (01) Year based in Abidjan. TheCommunications Officer is responsible for external and internal communications. The externally oriented work aims at ensuring excellence in serving members and in creating awareness about child rights to decision makers and the general public in Cote d’Ivoire. The internal communication focuses on providing key information to staff and building capacity among staff to the respect and develop the Save the Children brand name in Cote d’Ivoire.

This is a national position with national conditions. 

The Communications Officer will :

  • Ensure that the branding and communication guidelines of Save the Children are uniformly and consistently followed across the Côte d’Ivoire Country Office
  • Contribute to communicating key messages for policy change in SC’s areas of work; child rights governance, education, protection and health/nutrition
  • Proactively develop a high profile for Save the Children in Côte d’Ivoire (within Côte d’Ivoire and beyond) through the production of high quality, well researched, and well written products (in a variety of mediums) reflective of the dual mandate portfolio, responding quickly and appropriately to external requests for information, especially in emergencies
  • Develop and deliver a clear and effective system for internal communications including the dissemination of  newsletters  and  other  documents  and  publications  for internal stakeholders
  • During Emergencies liaise and maintain contact with members and implement communication activities including facilitating media visits and working within incoming media & communications surge support as set out in the Rules and Principles of Emergency Response
  • Ensure that media essential standards are met and respected at all times

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area of communications or equivalent.
  • A general appreciation of the issues concerning the INGO sector with an in-depth knowledge in communications, media and advocacy
  • Recommended a minimum of 5 years experience in a corporate or an NGO environment, with experience in successfully leading the development and implementation of communication and campaign strategies for an international humanitarian organisation, preferably in West Africa
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Experience of building personal networks, resulting in securing significant new opportunities for the organisation
  • Writing and presentation skills, particularly in English but also in French
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
