Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Africa seeks for Climate Adaptation Technical Lead in Cote D’ Ivoire, for the anticipated Climate adaptation fund project: Improved Resilience of coastal communities in Cote D’ Ivoire and Ghana. The Climate Adaptation Technical Lead will oversee the implementation of various climate adaptation activities at the field level, with a focus on early warning systems, awareness raising, green and blue infrastructure development, mangroves reforestation, climate-resilient agriculture and other livelihoods opportunities:

Habitat for Humanity’s Key Responsibilities in the Project.

The Habitat for Humanity team will lead the execution of component 2 through a team of regional, national and local experts, with the following key responsibilities:

Develop and establish, in collaboration with communities early warning systems, and trainings for their management and maintenance in 11 communities in Ghana and 10 in Cote d’Ivoire.

Set up awareness raising activities and trainings to mainstream EWS plans and escape strategies in 11 communities in Ghana and 10 in Cote d’Ivoire.

Build drainage channels in 9 communities of Ghana and 6 Communities of Cote d’Ivoire

Build micro infiltration cells in 9 communities in Ghana and 6 in Cote d’Ivoire, and 5 seasonal bioretention basins in Ghana.

Reforest mangrove systems to minimize the impact of floods in 10 communities in Cote d’Ivoire
Set up resilient agriculture activities through dedicated plots and one training centre in 6 communities in Cote d’Ivoire.
Train local staff and communities regarding project management, maintenance, and climate adaptation activities

Develop and manage contractual arrangements with contractors;

Prepare the 6-month progress reports at the country level to be submitted to the National Project Management Unit (RPIU) for review and integration in the overall 6-month project reports;

Attend Steering Committees and prepare project execution progress updates for respective components;
Produce technical project reports to be uploaded to the project knowledge management platform;


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief of Party and with the support of the technical team, the key responsibilities of the Climate Adaptation Technical Lead include (but not limited to):

Lead a team of technical experts to ensure technical excellence and successful project completion in alignment with expected outputs. Manage personnel: participate in selection processes, onboarding, performance appraisal, etc.

Coordinate with the implementation teams in both countries to ensure quality and timely technical support from your team.

Supervise, coordinate, and integrate the different technical aspects of the project:

Provide technical expertise on climate change adaptation
Development and establishment of early warning systems (EWS) in collaboration with communities, including the design and implementation of training programs for EWS management and maintenance in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.

Reforestation of mangrove systems in Cote d’Ivoire to mitigate flood impacts and promote environmental sustainability.

Establishment of resilient agriculture activities, including dedicated plots and a training center in Cote d’Ivoire to enhance community resilience.

Manage contractual arrangements, including consultants, works contractors, equipment installation, and other procured services. Together with Admin dept.

Coordinate with project partners on technical issues.
Manage progress reporting of technical activities. Ensure adequate compilation of sources of verification of the project’s technical activities.

Support the MEAL team’s monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning efforts.

Perform other duties related to this role as required.

 

Profil du poste

Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as climate change adaptation, disaster risk Management, or sustainable development; or

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Fluency in English and French.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a team of technical experts with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural background and experience.

xcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders such as consortium partners private sector, government officials, donors, etc.

Strong project management skills, including planning, coordination, and monitoring.

Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):

10+ years of project experience working in one or more technical disciplines, ideally with a focus in West Africa, particularly, coastal climate adaptation, climate resilience, community development, sustainable livelihoods, or other relevant technical areas.

Experienced knowledge of Adaptation Fund policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.

Proven experience in managing complex projects, particularly those related to climate change adaptation and sustainable development.

Experience working in the Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana will be an added advantage.
