Position: Senior Tax Compliance Associate

Report Directly to: Finance Compliance & Reporting (FC&R) Manager

OBJECTIVE: The Senior Tax Compliance Associate reports to the Finance Compliance & Reporting (FC&R) Manager and is responsible for the company’s compliance with tax requirements, managing tax-related risk, and enforcing internal controls that safeguard the company’s financial integrity. Key responsibilities include preparing and filing statutory tax returns, reconciling tax accounts, and supporting statutory audits and tax authority requests, in close coordination with the Senior Accounts Associate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Tax Planning & Compliance

• Prepare and file statutory tax returns within deadline, including VAT (TVA), Corporate Income Tax (IS/BIC), Payroll Taxes (ITS), Withholding Tax, Business License (Contribution des Patentes), and other local taxes
• Prepare supporting schedules for the annual fillings for review by the FC&R Manager, in coordination with the Senior Accounts Associate

Prepare tax payment requests and ensure remittances are made through the correct channels ahead of due dates

• Maintain a tax filing calendar and proactively flag upcoming deadlines to the FC&R Manager and the Senior Accounts Associate
• Monitor changes in tax law and advise the FC&R Manager on their impact to the company's tax position.

Tax Risk Management & Internal Controls

• Identify and escalate tax-related risks, including exposure to penalties, interest, or additional taxes
• Reconcile all tax accounts (VAT, WHT, CIT, Payroll Taxes...) monthly, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and maintain supporting reconciliation files.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of internal control procedures over tax filings and payments
• Perform periodic self-reviews of tax positions to identify exposure ahead of statutory or tax authority audits.

Tax Audits & Authority Liaison

• Coordinate with the Senior Accounts Associate in preparing responses to tax authority (DGI) information requests, notices, and audit queries
• Compile and organize supporting documentation requested during tax audits
• Liaise with external tax advisors and external auditors on tax-related matters as directed
• Track corrective actions arising from tax audit findings and confirm their implementation.

Documentation & Records Retention

• Maintain organized, audit-ready files of all tax declarations, payment proofs, and supporting calculations, in line with the OHADA minimum 10-year retention requirement
• Keep a record of all correspondence with tax and social security authorities.

Support to Closing & Reporting

• Prepare tax provisions, accruals, and disclosures for month-end and year-end closing, in coordination with the FC&R Manager and Senior Accounts Associate
• Contribute tax-related notes and schedules to the statutory financial statements.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's in accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field is mandatory and four years’ experience in the relevant role, including two years’ experience in a supervisory role. A BTS or equivalent qualification with eight years’ experience in the relevant role, including four years in a supervisory role.

• A recognized qualification is a plus.

• Fluency in French and proficiency in English are required.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax compliance and accounting preferably in the Energy sector or another multinational environment.

• Solid working knowledge of the Ivorian Tax Code 
• Working knowledge of OHADA accounting principles as they relate to tax accounting.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and et IA (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilote), with strong Excel skills.
• Experience with financial/ERP software and tax e-filing platforms.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT 

• Propose training and development program for staff in line with technical and business needs. 

• Carry out performance appraisals and development plans with subordinate staff. 

• Coordinate the rotational schedule (on and off duty) of subordinate staff.

• Effective Communication: Liaises clearly and professionally with the FC&R Manager, the Senior Accounts Associate, Tax Authorities..

Collaborative Mindset: Works closely with Payroll and the wider Finance team to gather accurate data for filings.
