1- PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the Senior Plant Metallurgist the primary role of Plant Metallurgist is to support the Senior Plant Metallurgist and is accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the Metallurgy function (strategy and execution) to deliver to maximized production and minimized costs while ensuring operational sustainability.
2- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Health, Safety and Environment:
- 0 LTI’s.
- 0 Fatalities.
- Minimum of 4 hazard reports per month.
- Minimum of 1 Planned task observation per month.
- Minimum of 1 Safe act observation per month.
- Minimum of 1 Workplace Inspection per month.
- Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within Metallurgical team.
Metallurgical performance of the Process Plant:
- Manage the implementation of the metallurgical accounting system to enable ongoing reliable reporting on the performance of the Process plant
- Ensure metallurgical data is accurate and updated in a timely manner
- Ensure daily survey of the process done accurately and continue to investigate opportunities for improvement
- Ensure recording of data and collection of samples done accurately
- Monitor and account reagent/consumables usage for the process plant
- Ensure the collection and recording of data from instrumentation done on a regular basis.
- Initiate and Implement cost reduction program.
Support to Operations:
- Help in the operation of the process where required
- Ensures the process operates at a high level of technical performance
- Ensure process control loops are optimized
- Report laboratory data to Operations staff in a timely manner
- Assist in Operator Training as required
Optimization of the Process Plant Performance:
- Continue to investigate opportunities for process improvement. Conduct monitoring, sampling, test work and process auditing programs. Report findings in an accurate and timely manner.
- Investigates and implements opportunities to increase competitive advantages and align them with the organization’s overall strategy.
- Metallurgical Test Work (10%)
- Manage ongoing metallurgical test work programs for Ity CIL project. Test work completed accurately on schedule.
- Set up and make schedule for daily and project test work.
- Input into the annual budget production plans and ongoing quarterly forecasts, including reagent/consumable usage rates, production and recoveries data (5%)
- Provide support to Metallurgy Superintendent to concise plans for achieving the gold production as required.
- Production of the annual production schedules in the template for inclusion into the operations budget model for review by the management group.
Assay Laboratory Support:
- Ensure Process and Metallurgy samples are delivered in a timely manner, and non-routine samples are submitted according to correct procedure.
- Review assay results and check for accuracy, report any variations immediately.
- Liaise with assay laboratory and ensure all procedures are adhered to.
- Recruitment, training and management of the Metallurgy Department (5%)
- Set up the training program of the metallurgical department employees.
- Participate in recruitment process to ensure department is sufficiently staffed by qualified personnel.
- Manage the development and writing of procedures for the metallurgical activities and test work
Safety Management:
- Demonstrate personal commitment about safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Ensure every person within the team is fit for work.
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.

3- SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical Mineral Processing or Metallurgical Engineering or BSc Metallurgy.
Relevant Experience:
- Minimum 8 Years’ Experience in Mineral Processing production with significant exposure to gold operations and management experience
- Previous experience in complex gold plant operations including those with high values of copper, silver in feed and associated detoxification circuit concerns
- Knowledge of metallurgical accounting practices and procedures
- Previous experience within a gold processing laboratory
- Previous experience at senior supervisory level
- Ability to interpret metallurgical results
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and build effective relationships and networks
- Possess strong training and mentoring skills
- Demonstrate strong conceptual skills, and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions
- Ability to respond to a changing work environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time
- Reputation for integrity and ethic
