Reporting to the Regional Tax Manager, the Regional Tax Financial Reporting Specialist is responsible for providing necessary advice, guidance, and coaching on all tax financial reporting matters for our West African operations. This role serves as a valued partner, offering support on corporate and local tax reporting matters. The Specialist will focus on the calculation of tax provisions on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis, assist with the conversion from IFRS to SYSCOA, and lead compliance for various tax filings, VAT returns, and tax requirements within the region.
The Financial Reporting Specialist will also be responsible for executing new process and system improvement to provide efficiency in the tax accounting and tax financial reporting functions in the region.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Provision Calculation
• Ensure accurate and timely calculations of complex tax provisions as part of the monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing process.
• Collaborate closely with Corporate Director of Tax and auditor and assist in preparing deferred tax provisions and tax regulatory assets/liabilities.
• Provide valuable support in the effective tax rate calculations.
• Provide monthly, quarterly, and yearly tax planning for quarterly forecast and annual budget.

IFRS to SYSCOA Conversion
• Provide support and assistance in the conversion from IFRS to SYSCOA for financial reporting.
• Ensure tax compliance with both SYSCOA standards.
• Review conversion adjustments and reconciliations between IFRS and SYSCOA.
• Assist in training finance staff on Tax reporting requirements.

Tax Accounting
• Review classification of expenses and capitalization of significant expenses.
• Review complex tax accounting implications for the region, including inventory valuation, stripping accounting, asset retirement obligations, non-routine transactions, capex, intercompany, and transfer pricing for the entities within the region.
• Review major Tax account reconciliations.
• Develop and maintain the month-end calendar and ensure reporting is executed as per the prescribed deadlines for the region for Tax related activities.

Tax Financial Reporting
• Review and approve tax entries for entity-level statements.
• Review and approve tax entries for statutory and consolidated Financial Statements.
• Prepare notes and schedules for various tax balances for reporting as required.
• Review and approve tax reporting submissions to Corporate for consolidation.
• Prepare taxes consolidation (including royalties taxes) and coordinate with Accounts Payable for payment processing.




Tax Compliance & Returns
• Lead compliance for various tax filings, payroll Tax, VAT returns, and other tax requirements within the region.
• Assist in tax filings with assessments and any necessary objections.
• Assist in tax compliance for all West Africa operations.

Tax Audit & Reviews
• Prepare tax files for the external audit.
• Provide support in tax audits from government authorities.
• Assist in providing expert guidance on tax risks.


Leadership
• Collaborate, build, and maintain relationships with Corporate Director of Tax, Regional and local finance team.
• Maintain industry knowledge and identifies new tax development within the various countries in the West Africa region where the group is operating.
• Bring specialized tax knowledge and insight to other business units and the mine sites.
• Continuously identify new ways to serve the business’s tax requirements.
• Support internal and external auditors where required.
• Serve as the primary escalation contact for tax related matters.
• Ensure designed controls are properly executed within the tax financial reporting at site and regional level.

 

Profil du poste

Experiences and Qualifications
• Minimum of five years’ experience in the mining sector in a similar or equivalent position.
• At least a 5-year degree in Tax.
• In-depth knowledge of tax and customs regulations in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina, and Senegal. Knowledge of tax regulations in the other countries of the West Africa region is an asset.
• A good working knowledge of IFRS standards and SYSCOA
• Organized and methodical.
• Willingness to travel.
• Working knowledge Sarbanes Oxley and internal control is preferred.
• Sound technical background in all aspects of Tax Provision, conversion from IFRS to SYSCOA and Tax Financial Reporting preferably in the mining industry.
• Experience working in an international mining organization
• Experience working in operations and interacting with Corporate Director of Tax, Tax authorities and auditors.
• Prior in-country, or multi-country experience in Africa is strongly preferred.


Other Qualifications
• CPA, MBA, or similar qualification
• Fluent in French and English
