REGIONAL TAX & COMPLIANCE SUPERVISOR

Reporting to the Regional Financial Controller, The Regional tax Compliance Supervisor is responsible for providing necessary advice, guidance, and coaching pertaining to all tax matters for West African operations. He will serve as a valued partner to decision makers and provide support on tax related matters. This role is responsible for overseeing tax planning, accounting, financial reporting, as well as ensuring compliance with tax requirements in the region.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Planning
- Determines and implements tax strategy and planning for all legal entities based on changes to business structure and operations (incl. Impact from M&A transactions).
- Conducts analysis to identify tax savings and opportunities.
- Reviews strategic planning decisions and provides guidance on tax implications.
- Reviews and provides input into memos prepared by the Tax Accountant and Senior Tax Specialist on various tax matters as they arise.
Tax Accounting
- Prepares complex tax provisions as part of the period-end closing process.
- Assists in preparation of monthly and quarterly calculations for tax provisions and tax payables prepared by the Tax Accountant/ Tax Specialist.
- Assists in preparation of deferred tax provision and tax regulatory asset/ liabilities.
- Reviews and approves the effective tax rate.
- Consults Fortuna decision makers on tax implications of management decisions where necessary.
- Prepares quarterly and monthly forecasts.
Tax Financial Reporting
- Reviews and approves tax entries for entity level statements.
- Reviews and approves the tax entries for statutory and consolidated Financial Statements.
- Prepares notes and schedule for various tax balances for reporting, as required.
- Reviews and approves tax reporting submissions to Corporate for consolidation.
Tax Compliance & Returns
- Responsible for tax compliance for all West Africa operations.
- Reviews tax filings with assessments and any necessary objections.
Tax Audit & Reviews
- Oversees tax audits by providing necessary support to government authorities.
- Reviews tax files prepared for the external audit by the Senior Tax Specialist.
- Acts as main contact for communication with external auditors and tax authorities for tax related matters.
- Manages and provides expert guidance on tax risks.
Leadership
- Collaborates, builds, and maintains relationships with the Accounting/ Finance team.
- Assists in hiring, supervising, mentoring, and retaining skilled team members in tax.
- Responsible for overall leadership of the tax team including staff deployment, and training Manages relationship with the third-party tax consultant.
- Continuously identifies new ways to serve the business’s tax requirements.
- Brings specialized tax knowledge and insight to the team.
- Supports internal and external auditors where required.
- Identifies, manages, and contributes to special projects and delegates as required.
Profil du poste
- The candidate must have at least five years’ experience in the mining sector and in a similar or equivalent position.
- The candidate must have at least a 5-year degree in Tax.
- The candidate must be able to express him/herself correctly in English and French.
- Perfect knowledge of tax and customs regulations in Côte d'Ivoire.
- Knowledge of tax regulations in the countries of the sub-region would be an asset.
- A knowledge of IFRS standards and SYSCOA.
- Organized and methodical
- able to travel.
