Description du poste

POSITION PURPOSE

• Leads and manages all OHS related activities to achieve operational goals and targets.
• Optimise the potential of the employees and assets of the company without compromising safety standards or risking the business.
• Co-ordinate all safety activities including implementing and maintaining the site Safety Management Plan to ensure compliance with OSHAS 18001.
• Monitor the compliance and implementation of safety policies and procedures and effectiveness of Rescue team.
• Co-ordinate and develop suitable training programs for employees as requested by HOD’s.
• Monitor effectiveness of Site Medical Clinic.
• Act as a leader in all areas by assisting, planning, developing, implementing, reviewing and monitoring activities to optimize the services provided by the OHS Department.
• Develop and maintain open communications lines to the Operations Manager and all other HOD’s to meet objectives related to safety and health and communicate priorities to the team.
• Ensure that all activities are done according to established policies and standards.
• Provide a systematic approach in meeting all targets
• Plan, organise and control the high-level activities related to his department.
• Oversee all people related activities always behaving in a manner consistent with company values and expected behaviours.
• Keep necessary records of all aspects related to his department and contractual activities.
• Manage relationships and contractual requirements with contractors and service providers.
• Management of Department.
• Act as a leader in all areas by assisting, planning, developing, implementing, reviewing and monitoring activities to optimize the services provided by the OHS Department.
• Ensure that all activities are done according to established policies and standards.
• Carries out duties of managing all activities in the most cost-effective manner possible.
• Is accountable for the preparation of the budget.
• Negotiate and manage 3rd party service providers in order to reduce costs.
• Monitor KPI and follow through with action plans.
• Helps others in identifying initiatives in increasing costs efficiencies.
• Review and communicate individual and team performances in daily, weekly, monthly team meetings.
• Create and maintain strong relationship with all internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure the OHS staff are executing their roles and responsibilities.
• Sets and implements health and safety policy and procedures in order to ensure the Company complies with all relevant safety legislation.
• Ensures the mine site safety system is aligned with Company standards, requirements and key performance indicator targets.
• Assist the company to achieve and maintain legal compliance.
• Identifies, investigates and implements improvements to all operations in order to maximize the capabilities of the team to prevent any loss/negative impact to the business.
• Implement various programs and surveys related to safety improvements.
• To adhere to all Integrated Management System (IMS) practices and procedures relevant to the operations.
• Assist with implementation of risk mitigation measures identified on the project risk register.

Profil du poste

POSITION HOLDER REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 5 years’ experience at a remote location (preferably West Africa).
• Degree or diploma and/or internationally recognized certification in the field of Safety and Risk Management.
• Training Certificate (Workplace Assessor – Cert IV).
• Major/catastrophic event planning and coordination.
• Auditors Certificate.
• At least 10 years of experience in a Safety and Training environment with an emphasis on development and implementation of systems.
• Knowledge of ERP systems.
• Understanding of OH&S safety systems.
• Strong experience in succession planning.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong knowledge of OHS labour laws and regulations in Senegal.
• Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower team.
• Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills in English, (French is an asset) to effectively interact with employees and government officials.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work with a sense of urgency.
• Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower team.
• Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
