Overview of the organization

Root Capital (RC) is a specialized, not-for-profit rural lender that seeks to have direct social and environmental impact on rural communities via lending and advisory services, and to catalyze systemic change in financial markets and agricultural value chains. Purpose of position:
The advisory associate will support the advisory work in West Africa and assist the advisory manager in coordinating and implementing various training activities and pilot projects for programs in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Identify, help recruit and assist a network of local financial trainers in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana
• Meet with local financial trainers
• Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs) for training engagements
• Evaluate proposals
Actively participate in planning and coordinating logistics of centralized workshops
• Help coordinate training with loan officers to ensure the proper mix of participants
• Coordinate the logistics (training venue, accommodation)
• Identify the trainers needed to carry out the workshop
• Assist in evaluating the training materials before the workshop and provide feedback
• Follow up with clients after trainings to gauge and evaluate the quality of the training
Plan and coordinate logistics of one-on-one onsite training
• Identify the trainers needed to carry out the workshop
• Assist in evaluating the training materials before the onsite training and provide feedback
• Follow up with clients after training to control quality of training
Gather information required towards reporting requirements
• Prepare reports on activities as needed, including quarterly feedback and donor reports
• Work with the West Africa Advisory Manager to maintain the quality of information in Root Capital’s information tracking systems.
Maintain active collaboration and partnership with lending, business development, monitoring and evaluation
• Communicate regularly with loan officers and business development officers on training opportunities and progress made with training clients
• Liaise with the monitoring and evaluation personnel in evaluating the training outcomes
Other duties as assigned by the advisory manager.

Profil du poste

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent or related experience.
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in financial training and/or development programs, working with rural associations or farmers’ groups and cooperatives.
• Experience in project management and execution, including administering funds
• Experience in planning, evaluating and systematizing training processes
• Demonstrated experience leading and coordination teams

Skills and Abilities

• Comprehension of methodologies for providing financial training to farmers and rural businesses and associations.
• An understanding of the local context
• Ability and willingness to travel to the rural areas and within Africa
• Microsoft office proficiency (Word, Powerpoint, Excel); general proficiency with technological tools and willingness to learn
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational abilities, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to with multiple projects simultaneously.
• English and French fluency required; knowledge of other local languages a plus
• Ability to work independently with little supervision and with an entrepreneurial spirit
• Proactive, service-oriented mind-set and a self-starter
• Creative and innovative
• Have a team work spirit and be capable to work under pressure

• Applicants must be authorized to work in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: Regular travel to rural and urban regions of West Africa countries often with limited medical, transport, communications and lodging facilities.
