MANAGER, SPECIALISED FINANCE

Job Description:

  • The incumbent will le be responsible for Identifying, structuring, and execution of Export Credit Agency (ECA), multilateral and Development Finance Institution (DFI) supported project, capital goods and services importation & export finance transactions in Africa. The position holder will be part of the Specialised Finance function, whose main objectives include:
  • Managing the Bank ECA Loans Facilitation Programme (ELFP) under which the Bank works with ECAs around the world to facilitate access of eligible African businesses to various facilities
  • Mobilising and utilising ECA, Multilateral and Developmental Finance products in support of the Bank’s goal of transforming Africa’s exports
  • Managing relationships with DFIs and MFIs, including sourcing of medium to long-term funding to support the Bank’s operations;
  • Structuring project, trade finance and buyer credit facilities with ECAs, and DFIs to ensure optimal implementation of the Bank’s strategic goals;
  • Increasing the proportion of the Bank’s assets attracting favourable risk weighting for capital adequacy purposes by proactively utilising ECA facilities such as guarantees, credit insurance and other related products;
  • Marketing of the Bank’s ECA Loans Facilitation Programme to ECAs and African banks.

Responsibilities:

  • Deal Origination and Structuring:
  • Secure ECA/DFI backed financing mandates from existing and potential clients of the Bank
  • Identify, negotiate and execute profitable project, export and capital importation transactions utilising existing or new ECA and DFI funding credit lines and related arrangements
  • Co-ordinate borrower due diligence, deal structuring and pricing negotiations.
  • Build and or evaluate financial models, specifically project cash flow models, relating to specialised finance transactions.
  • ECA/DFI funding:
  • Prepare transaction teasers; information memoranda and presentations to facilitate securing of financing support from ECA and DFI partners.
  • Lead and or participate in negotiating and executing funding arrangements with the Bank’s ECA and DFI partners
  • Marketing:
  • Work closely with the Bank’s trade finance intermediaries (TFIs), funding partners, commercial banks, multilaterals and Africa focused deal originating entities identify projects to be funded under the Banks Specialised Finance window.
  • Actively market the Bank’s ECA/DFI finance product to African corporates, financial institutions, multilaterals and Insurers
  • Coordinate and/or participate in deal road-shows and co-financing partner calling programmes to support expansion of the Bank’s specialised finance activities.
  • Provide feedback to the Bank’s origination teams on potential ECA/DFI funding sources for relevant project, capital goods and services import and export finance transactions.
  • Relationship Management:
  • Establish and maintain a diversified network of specialised financing partners including DFIs, ECAs, multilaterals, international commercial banks, African financial institutions credit insurance companies;
  • Develop and maintain strong network of senior level African exporter, importer and project sponsor contacts to facilitate securing of specialised finance mandates
  • Manage the Bank’s relationships with wide network of professional advisors, consultants and deal originators to facilitate deal due diligence.
  • Devise and implement enhanced cooperation in project, capital goods and services import and export finance between Afreximbank, ECAs and DFIs
  • Work as part of or lead deal teams to ensure the Banks extensive portfolio ECA/DFI funding lines is optimally utilised

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • First degree in a related field from a good university and a Masters degree in economics, banking and finance or MBA. A professional qualification in Banking or International Trade Finance or related disciplines may be accepted in lieu of a post graduate degree;
  • Sound experience of at least 8 years with a leading organisation and familiarity and working knowledge with the trade and project finance products to be offered to clients, including syndicated loans, co-financing, club deals, correspondent banking products including letters of credit, structured trade finance, project-related financing;
  • At least 5 years of experience in the project and export finance and good understanding of the medium to long-term cross border debt markets, with proven background in fund raising, financial modelling, credit analysis, loan documentation and corporate finance.
  • Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting and therefore knowledge of the workings of the main segments of the African project and export finance markets;
  • Constructive deal team leadership and strong teamwork approach.
  • Ability to engage senior officials of banks, corporates and governments to leverage the Bank’s specialised finance products;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of the Bank’s other working languages (French , Arabic and Portuguese) is an added advantage
  • Willingness to travel extensively and to work long hours where required in order to achieve the Bank’s objectives;
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to build and nurture relationships with internal and external counterparties to attain goals.
  • Sales, marketing and negotiation skills;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the financing programmes offered by export credit agencies, Developmental Financial Institutions and Multilateral Institutions, specifically Africa focused project, export and buyer credit financing arrangements;
  • Proven ability to win mandates with minimal supervision and proven ability to execute and close strategic transactions;
  • Good knowledge of the OECD rules governing ECA programs is an added advantage.
