Position: Country General manager, Côte d'Ivoire

Location: Abidjan

Duration: Permanent

Job purpose

  • To inspire, align and provide direction to the GSK pharmaceutical team in country, creating a culture where people can develop and be their best and deliver value to our patients, physicians and shareholders.
  • Accountable for ensuring that appropriate patients have access to GSK medicines in country
  • Maintain a strong and responsible link with the community, through work with policy makers, professionals, associations and NGOs.
  • Integrate insights that gained from having a 360 degree view by looking down, out and forward
  • Leverage the global GSK capabilities and talent to build a sustainable and successful business.
  • Custodian of GSK's reputation, holding self and team accountable for the GSK values, policies and ethical standards, as well as local laws, to ensure operations are with the highest level of integrity

Key accountabilities

  • P&L - Active & responsive P&L management & prioritization of resources
  • Performance Management of delivery of critical metrics including sales, profit, market/channel share, launch excellence, recommendation rates & employee engagement
  • Flawless execution and implementation of all commercial strategies - including pricing, market access, launching new assets, operational planning, prioritization, portfolio and brand management.
  • Evolve the business model to ensure sustainable business presence in country
  • Ensure adherence to compliance requirements and a license to operate:
  • Identify and manage risks, allocating resources and priorities.
  • Leverage and energize the matrix, influencing and collaborating to reach win-win solutions for the country, and implementing global initiatives. Bringing a broader global perspective to global/regional teams. - Chair the Country Executive Board, aligning the businesses/functions
  • Manage complex and transformational change; leading through transitions. Driving a culture of continuous improvement, building an agile learning organization.

Qualifications and experience :

  • A strong University Degree - MBA or Postgraduate Qualification an advantage.
  • 6-10 years successful senior management experience with bias for Commercial functions.
  • Experience of managing P&L, and exposure to financial leadership.
  • Experience in a commercial role, e.g. sales or marketing
  • Experience of leading diverse and large teams, both direct reports and matrixed teams.
  • French and English proficiency
  • Experience of initiating and/or developing a complex change initiative
  • Experience of working in a different region or country, ideally with different cultures
  • Experience as part of an LOC leadership team
  • Track record of talent management and development
  • ldeally has some experience of Government Affairs (GA), health associations or industry bodies, e.g. secondment to GA, targeted PULSE assignment, project with an NGO or patient body, shadowing a GM.
