Save the Children in Cote d’Ivoire

Save the Children, Cote d’Ivoire Program is seeking a Child Protection Advisor Consultant, for two (02) months, based in Abidjan.  

THE ROLE:   

  • Manage a team of national staff and ensure that they have daily and weekly work plans and are achieving their aims and objectives.
  • Develop proposals, financial budgets and ensure that monitoring and evaluation strategies are in place and ensuring effective documentation of our program and progress by capturing lessons learnt and good practices.
  • Finalize all the reports of Child Protection Programme for donors and SCI members.
  • Manage a diverse range of Child Protection programs funded from different sources and coordinate with the other sectors to ensure collaboration and holistic support to the children and beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to the situational report on a daily basis and ensure that total reach and spend are updated on a regular basis. This entails writing the daily/weekly Child Protection response updates and ensuring that they are submitted in time.
  • Contribute to Country strategy planning 2016-2018
  • Continue to develop understanding on children’s meaningful participation throughout the program, and develop/implement strategies to enable children to identify and address the issues of concern to them and promote their voices.
  • Ensure that Child protection is mainstreamed in all the other sectors within Save the Children and that all staff members are informed on Child safeguarding policy.
  • Supervise, plan and oversee the work plan of the Child Protection team undertaking field visits when necessary.
  • Supervise, monitor and provide technical support to the ongoing programme activities.
  • Undertake capacity building programs, workshops, seminars and on the job training for the staff, partners and government officials.
  • Represent the organization in the  Child Protection Cluster/National Child protection coordination meetings 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least five years of development work experience of which minimum 3 years are in a humanitarian response setting
  • Experience in designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating child protection programme in emergency, transition and development contexts
  • Ability to identify the main gaps in child protection in the given context to inform a holistic response for children.
  • Commitment to and understanding of child rights, Save the Children’s aims, values and principles and humanitarian standards as Sphere Charter and Code of Conduct
  • Good knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards and guidelines in child protection, such as the Inter-agency Guidelines on Separated and Unaccompanied Children, the Paris Principles, MRM, SC Child Friendly Spaces Handbook.
  • Experience in capacity building and in strengthening various duty bearers understanding of and response to child protection.
  • Self-awareness and proven ability to operate successfully in different cultural environments
  • Ability to achieve results and maintain consistent high standards of professional behavior and achievement, including when working alone.
  • Good team leader and team member skills, including the ability to be part of and organize, support, manage and develop a small team.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain appropriate and productive relations with a range of actors, including children, parents, local and national authorities in political and militarily sensitive environments.
  • Experience of working with partners and a participatory approach
  • Ability to manage stress to be flexible and accommodating in difficult and frustrating working circumstance.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French
  • Computer literate
  • Budget development and financial monitoring skills
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child rights and safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
