1- PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
The Mechanical Lead hand is primarily responsible for surface engineering and maintenance programs of
the site to optimize the safety and performance of all fixed plant to achieve optimal operational and
production goals while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The incumbent will also
develop, coach and train a team of maintenance technicians to ensure that all aspects of the surface fixed
equipment run as efficiently as possible by providing daily supervision of staff and training on all technical
areas of the plant.
2- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
General
- Leading, developing and mentoring a group of mechanical maintenance personnel to complete quality work safely and efficiently.
- Ensure direct reports have clear understanding of their responsibility’s and have the resources available to accomplish outcomes.
- Ensure safety standards of supervised employees are meet by holding weekly safety meetings, reviewing procedures and through visible safety leadership.
- Execute and reinforce the health and safety program.
- Monitor equipment status and accurately use CMMS system to perform daily duties.
- Ensure direct reports are performing jobs to plan and that daily maintenance targets are achieved.
- Ensuring all maintenance mechanical works are completed in a safe manner and in compliance with established safe work procedures and systems.
Responding to and managing unscheduled maintenance work so that impact on the operation is
minimised.
Compliance / Quality Control
- Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
- Consistently maintain a high quality of work within the maintenance team.
- Provide input regarding improvement opportunities and areas of risk.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (including Company Policy, Standards, and Procedures) through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
Staff Development
- Assist Mechanical Coordinator to develop appropriate selection criteria for the positions within the Mechanical Maintenance team.
- Ensure personnel have the appropriate equipment, licenses, skills, induction and training to safely undertake their tasks.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the team to identify areas requiring improvement.
- Assist with developing the skills of subordinates through the transfer of technology and skill development through on-the-job training programs.
- Conduct formal career development discussions with employees.
- Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between all team members and related departments.
Safety Management
- Demonstrate personal commitment about safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Ensure every person within the team is fit for work.
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.

3- SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Minimum Diploma, Certificate IV or Mechanical Trade qualified.
Relevant experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical field associated with fixed plant maintenance.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role.
- Experience on pumps, valves, crushers, mills, vibrating screens, conveyors, pipe fitting.
- Solid understanding of Maintenance planning and execution.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and supervise.
- French language skills desired, not essential.
- Experience within the mining sector in Africa or remote work locations.
- Working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
- Possesses strong training and mentoring skills with the ability to develop an effective team.
- Demonstrates strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
- Ability to respond to a changing work environment.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
- A reputation for integrity and ethics.
